Morning moon...

Early morning moon...

I'm still posting daily here, but I'm taking a little Net break. We have not gone anywhere. Just spending less time, on the computer, for a bit.

Thank you for all the comments, you leave here. I always read them. And I'll be back making my rounds of your blogs, in a few days.

Is one... Was two...

{Click on photo, to enlarge}

The unique thing about this house is... Today it's a one story brick house.

But long ago, there was at least one more story above, made of wood. But the wood upper part burned. And they decided not to replace it. They simply put a roof on the brick first floor and it's been thus, for as long as we can remember.

Re: Yesterday's entry...
Yes, this is the old family corner drug store {begun in Civil War time}, I've written of before.
And the counter showing, is part of the original soda fountain, which my husband refinished.

I don't know what this is...

I don't know what this is. But it seemed to have "spring up" overnight. We were amazed when we drove past here and saw it, recently. And this is a route we take often.

It sits where a long-time-vacant lot sat. In a family type housing neighborhood. The lot was not over-grown, just a nice big yard. And the man who owned said, he was not going to sell it. But, I guess he did.

I wonder what all the regular homes think of this, sprouting up so high, in their midst? We have rigid zoning in this city. There are houses in that neighborhood, which have been converted from single family dwellings, to apartments. So I suppose this could be apartments/condos. Although it has the look of an office building, too. Only time will tell. :-)

Signs unique to your city...

The sign doesn't quite cover it. The Irish came first, and they were employed in the glass blowing factories. {On Glass Factory Mountain, as it was called} This west side of town where their homes were, was nicknamed 'Dublin.' The Irish began to move out, when the glass factories closed. And the Italians came next. To this day, there are still many Italian families living there.

I may not have worded this entry properly. We in the USA are all descendants of those who came from other countries!!! Unless we are American Indians, that is.
My great grandfather on my mother's side, came from Ireland. My grandfather on my father's side, came from Germany. My husband's grandfather came from Germany. We are ALL descended from people from other countries, and proud of it.

They came here to the USA, and worked hard and saw to it, that their children learned the language and integrated. And learned to be good citizens of their adopted country. And that is why many of us feel that this should continue. Integration in the adopted country, I mean. Become a citizen... Learn the language... And be proud of both one's heritage, and of one's adopted country.

Do you have signs/plaques, unique to your city or area? Look around, maybe you'll find some.

Some time ago, another city blog, asked this question. Sadly, her blog is no longer active. If it was, I'd link back to it, of course.

Old brick home...

A brick house, next door to the original city hospital. With a great looking porch {to me anyway, I love porches} To sit out on, of a Summer evening. Talk to neighbors passing by, etc.

Still Halloween???

If you click on the photo, and enlarge it, you'll see that hanging decoration on the porch. It looks as if it is a Halloween decoration, to me. But isn't it a little late to still have this on a house? :-)

But then, it does seem to pick up the colors of the trim on this older home, quite well. Perhaps that is why they seem to leave it up, all year long. ,-)

Finally... Caught snow...

I think I finally photographed snow!

Both early big flakes, on top. And later, a heavy snowfall of smaller flakes.

Rear view...

The front of this building, has a quaint and cute look. But sometimes, a rear view of a building isn't quite as aesthetic,
as the front.

Fire Escape

Sometimes, something as ordinary as a fire escape, can make an interesting statement on a building. In Summer, the owner adds flower boxes to the fire escapes, and it makes the building look quite pretty.

Preservation

Click on pic, to enlarge

One of those lovely old structures, saved by having business and offices in it now. It was originally the Saratoga Spgs. Hospital. Now it houses offices and a gown shop. The display window of which, can be seen in front.

I love this building, which faces on Franklin Square. Which {Square} has numerous large old houses/buildings around it. A beautiful spot in our city.

I love it that the gown shop does tasteful displays. Always 3 gorgeous gowns in this display window. {There seems to be a sign, in the middle gown spot, at the present} Beautiful, tasteful, lovely, classic, fantastic gowns! :-) And I expect it to remain there, since it's been there for a long time, now.

Other tenants are probably offices. Which is fine, also. All I care about is the appearance, from the street. And that the inside is maintained also.

Ice shadows...

Which one is in color? Which one is in black and white?

{I know, it's a silly question. I guess I've got the late winter "blahhhs."}

Happy Ice Covered Valentine's Day!!!

~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~
~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~

Yesterday, above...

But I didn't get it posted yesterday, since our power was flickering and I shut computer down. Luckily, we didn't lose full power, even though the temps dropped, over night.

~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~
~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~

This morning, above...

It is simply an Ice Covered World out here. Ice on trees, bushes, driveways, walk ways, streets, roads, etc., etc. Not a morning to wander about, unless very necessary.

~~~***~~~***~~~***~~~
Btw, Happy Valentine's Day!!!
Dawn moon...
There will be no dawn moon, to be seen tomorrow morning. We are expecting 5" to 10" of snow tonight. And ice on top of that, tomorrow. No clear skies tomorrow morning.
I fulfilled the challenge... ,-)
Dot at Strolling Through Georgia challenged us to find a water tower in our area. And I did.
I know, it doesn't look like hers do. This one is not up on stilts, so to speak.
But this is what it is... A water tower or water holder or whatever... :-)
Still here... At sunset...
Back, at my usual posting time. With today's sunset.
We kept power and the snow came and went, through the day. With warmer temps and sunlight in between. Luckily, the warmer temps melted snow/ice on power lines. Extremely lucky, because the winds have picked up and it is now 21 degrees F. 32 degrees F. is freezing, so you can see that it is colddddddddddddddd. Plus wind chill factor.
Oh I know, this is "nothing," compared to the winter weather in some areas. But it's way too cold for me to venture far now. :-) So I'm staying in and staying warm.
******
Old store...
This is an old photo, of family drug store, hanging in store.
We are having lots of snow and now some wind. Had a slight power failure, a few minutes ago. If I'm still able to be on line, I'll be back with more snow pics, later. :-)
Nearly free!
Click on pics, for larger
Seems as if the icicle melted enough, to slip off the hook, on which it had formed. But could not free itself from the wire, which is also attached to the hook.
And since the top part of the icicle, is heavier than the bottom, it' s now hanging sort of up-side-down.
Pretty weird looking... ,-)
Yessssssssssssssssssssssss!!!
-Please click on picture, to enlarge-
I know. I know. 2 entries in one day.
Against the rules.
But I'm so happy.
So please may I? :-)
The other day, Eric posted a tv screen capture. So I take the liberty of doing the same. :-) He was not invited to 'the wedding,' and I was not in attendance at the Super Bowl.
But Eli Manning and the New York Giants won!!! As I so hoped they would. They were not the favorite. And they had to beat an amazing team, in the New England Patriots.
But win they did!
Sorry to seem silly, over a game. But it's not just 'the game,' to me. It's seeing the youngest {Eli Manning}, of a football dynasty family, come into his own.
********
Go Eli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Click on picture, for larger version
Above is a mosaic of scenes from a grocery store this morning...
Yes, it's "Super Bowl XLII"! ,-) "Super Bowl Sunday"!
Reason to get friends/family together for a party.
Have chips n' dips, beer, soda, all sorts of snacks to munch on. And in the top row of the mosaic is what I was told is supposed to be a Super Bowl cake in the form of goal posts. ,-)
Hmmm....
Goal posts?
But as the daddy said; "The kids will eat it!"
My wish?
GO GIANTS AND ELI!!!
I love Eli!!!
Some business listings...
As the sign says, these are listings of some businesses, on the West side of the main street. Traditionally, the East side has been more noticed. So ~~ This sign is on the East side, and at the main corner of the city. *Pointing* across the street. :-)
Thank you for kind comments, about my glasses. It will certainly be next week, before the part comes in the mail, and they can be fixed. It happened on the worst day... on Friday. Which is right before the weekend. :-( Oh well... Could be worse.
Friday... Sky... Tree
I think that Friday is a Sky Photo Theme Day in some places. And I see them posted here in CPDB. So I post an old tree, against a sky at sunset.
***
I broke my glasses frames again, this morning. I made an entry about this, over on my regular blog, so would you please go there and read it. That will save me having to type it over again, here. 'Cause I'm not comfortable with my glasses, like this.
***
The main issue is that I'll not be able to visit/comment in all your blogs, as I like to do, for a while. I hate this happening but... *Fun* stuff {Not!} like this, is just part of life.
***
I'll put a daily photo up, though, of course. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
