Green.. Little green... Any green...

Click pic, to enlarge

Moss... Growing between bricks... In a sunny spot...

Yes, I'm really "grasping at straws" {means=finding anything green, which I can} here. To find something green and growing. ,-) And if you click/enlarge the pic, you'll see the tiny green leaves of some weed or something, growing a couple of places in the moss too.

I know! I'm pretty desperate! ,-)

"Fed up" with snow!!!

This looks like a man, who is 'fed up' with snow. ,-)
He is pushing it off the front yard, with a shovel.

Not very good photos, because I had to take them, without being seen, myself. Naturally...

A visitor...

Neighbor's cat came by, for a drink in the little bird-bath-pond. I had to take a picture, from inside though. S/he looks calm, but isn't calm yet. If I had opened the door, s/he would have 'gotten spooky' and run away. But, I got a picture, anyway. :-)

Remember this carriage house which is going to rack and ruin?

Well, the owner has work done on the main house, now and then. This time, there seems to be a lot of work being done. Digging all around the edge of the foundation and ... well, all this activity you see in these pictures. I'll have to keep an eye on this project too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Birthday to me! :-)
But no pics of Champagne, or a big dinner out.
I'm on meds, so no celebrating tonight.
But then, at my age, getting up in the morning, can be looked on as a 'gift.'
Ooooops...
Ooooops, I nearly forgot to post an entry today! Just another roof "topping". On a garage this time, I think.
I say "I think", because I took it over some trees and things. And didn't go around the block to see what it was actually on. Funny, you get out of the car, to take one photo. And see another!
Still... What is it?
We went to see if there were any changes, in this new construction.
It doesn't look too different than it did. But there is less snow piled up in front. From this side, you can see one garage door. Interesting. It doesn't exactly look like a one family dwelling.
So the question remains... What will it be, when finished?
March 21...
Not exactly lots of growing things... But there is a tiny bit of green, showing.
And both the Garden Gnome and his frog, are free of snow.
And the snow cover is retreating... Not leaving exactly beautiful, lush green lawn, in its wake. But, a promise...
History...!!!
What a difference a week makes!
Today, New York State can hold its collective head up, once again.
As we watched the orderly transition of government, in our state and in our country.
And as we watched history being made.
Best wishes to our new Governor!!!
Comment Moderation necessary...
Do to a problem with comments, in another of my blogs, I've installed Comment Moderation.
How weird is that, hu? To have to do that. :-(
But, once bitten... I'm not going to wait around for it to happen here too.
Yeah, it stinks. But this is the World Wide Net we all are on. Zillions of people on it. Lots nice. Lots, not so nice.
My advice... Keep an eye on your comments!!!
The Historic Armory...
The historic armory in Saratoga Spgs.
It was designed by Isaac Perry, and constructed in 1889. It's a fine example of armory architecture that was popular in upstate New York in the late 1800’s.
Ever see snow 'curl'?
See the snow/ice hanging off the porch roof, above?
Here is a more close-up of it.
But even in this photo, I don't think it shows the way the snow 'curls' under, as it slips off the roof. This only happens for just so long, and the temperatures have to stay cold enough, so it won't fully melt. But warm a bit, so it will melt-slip a bit, off the roof. And 'curl' under a bit.
To really show it, I'd have had to trespass on this property and take a photo, from the side view. And I really didn't want to do that. :-)
S-t-u-p-i-d...
My city is in New York State. More's the pity, today. When we have such news headlines on our computers {pic is a capture of my computer screen}, and on our tv screens, and will have it, in newspapers tomorrow.
Lesson: Don't ride around on such a highly publicized "white horse," cleaning up "evil." And then be so personally stupid.
-sigh- For his wife and daughters...
What we don't love about...
What we don't love about our city... Huge hotels springing up, in so many places. Just big, high buildings. Not in keeping with old architecture.
Oh I know... How can we expect today's builders to give us period architecture? But! Some have tried. A local builder, has put up a replacement building right on Broadway, which fits in with the old. It probably cost him more. But he is local! From a local family, which has a history of loving this city and working for its betterment. These new hotels are not being built by locals.
Pardon my mini rant...
~~~~~~~~~~
ADDITION: I'm having troubles, trying to leave comments in other's blogs. Bahhh humbug.
~~~~~~~~~~
ANOTHER ADDITION: Apologies! I put this in Draft yesterday. And forgot to post it! Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh me! Sorry MB!!!
"What we love about..."
A hand done sign, in a restaurant in town. It's not exactly a carving, since a wood burning tool was used, to make it. But it's quite a large piece. You can click on the picture, for a larger view.
The whole thing! ,-)
Since people liked the icicles-on-this-house shot yesterday... And liked the house, they were on. So I point you back to an older entry.
.
No loss of power, for us! Some ice buildup began last night, but over-night temps moderated. So our area is just rain, rain, rain. North of us, may not have been so lucky.
Icicles!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those are some major icicles, I think you'll agree!!! On one of the big, old houses
on North Broadway.
Ice Storm coming later today. Wish me luck! I get so *used to* having power. It's not good, when we lose it. :-(
The old Rail Road Station
This building was the original railroad station. The tracks ran just to the right of this picture.
Later, this station was abandoned and a new station was built. Farther down the tracks a bit and on the other side of them.
That one is now gone, and the station is outside of the city now.
But this original one, was saved, and restored. As apartments.
Another happy ending...
Looking up...
Looking up, I noticed this interesting little railing, on the top of an old house roof. Cute the way they used to make little extra decorative touches, here and there. Back in the 'old days.'
Small update on Net break... It's amazing how many things one can accomplish,
when not on the computer, all the time.
