Ribbons, on trees...

~~Click on photos, to enlarge~~

Do people do this, in your city? Tie ribbons on trees...? The color of which,
signifies their purpose.

These are blue, and are attached to trees, up and down Broadway. There is a little card attached, which says they signify 'Eliminating Child Abuse.' Perhaps April is 'Child Abuse Awareness' month...

Replicas...

~Click on photos, to enlarge~

Another one of those things I noticed recently... These pretty replicas of old fashioned lights, in front of the old Adelphi Hotel {see click-able link, below}.
.
And this is a close shot.

I want to remember to try to get a photo of them, lit at night. Bet they are pretty.

Of course, who knows how long they have been installed there? And I'd never really noticed them, previously. I do love what taking photos does to my observation! Which is, increases it.

And I did a series of posts, with pictures I took inside this old hotel. If you'd like a look, you can start, by clicking on this link. And looking at the entry it takes you to, and at least 3 more posts, after this one.

Odd looking vine...

{Click on photos, to enlarge}

This vine on Broadway, looks odd ~ because it looks "dead as a door nail." {Which means, it looks very, very dead}

But it will green up again. I have to remember to take another photo, later in the season.

More!!!

~A reminder ~ my click-able links are in deep Red
and you can click on any photo, to make it bigger...~
~~~~
When I previously saw lots of digging being done on this old mansion, I didn't think restoration would continue. But now, instead of just a big hole being in front of the house... It looks like there are bases, for a new porch.
.
And in the back, no more just a bigger hole. There is the base for something... Maybe a big back porch. Something anyway.
.
And where the kitchen was, in the back... It's been gutted, and a support beam put through, from one side to the other.
.Here {above} is a close up of the support beam, and the hole for it.
.And you can see right through the back of the house. From one side to the other.
.And on the side of the house, where old porches were torn off ~ and where there was more digging done ~ work has been done on the foundation and preparation for new porches laid. The house had been let go, without work being done on it, by the heirs of the former owner. :-( I was in it, for the estate sale, and it had so much work needing to be done. Yeaaaaa, that the new owner is continuing the work, he began!!!
But I'm never satisfied. If only he would do the same, to the unique carriage house, behind it.
Violets...
Violets...
But white ones with a tiny bit of purple in the center, are so hard to photograph. All white flowers are hard for me to capture. -le sigh-
The same... and different
The same... and different.
The same... I will continue to take photographs and to blog.
The different... I have decided to take this blog off of CDPB. Even though I have loved every minute of being part of the CDPB family! I am so grateful to Eric for letting me join. And too
Demosthenes, for helping me many times, with techy difficulties. And am so grateful to all the exposure which CDPB has given my blog. And grateful to each and every person who has come by and commented. I hope to keep taking and blogging photos of my city. And to keep visiting all, who have been so kind to me, while here.
So, why the change? Because the "daily-ness" of it, has begun to feel sort of like a "job." I don't always want to post daily. But it's not fair, to change the flow of a blog, just to suit how I feel. Perhaps my problem with the "daily-ness," is simply my perception. It probably is. But we live in our perceptions. And mine now tell me, to make a change.
Again, thanks to all. And I will keep blogging. And visiting people who now feel like old friends. And be very happy if you still come by and visit me, here.
Love this old house...
I love this old house, up on a hill. And no, I didn't go up the driveway. I just zoomed up with my camera. ,-)
But I'd fix it up, if it was mine.
I'd take off that closed-in porch, on the right. And replace it with a matching porch, like what's on the left. By consulting old photos of the original, if possible. And do things with the lawn. And replace the old ratty shrubs, with new ones. Which would then be kept shaped. And some flower beds, around the base of the front window, which comes out, in the middle of the front. And have something done with the trees, by someone who knows what he's doing. And general sprucing-up and new paint job.
Surrrrrrrrrrrrre... >,-) All I'd need, is the money! ,-)
And do you remember yesterday's photo? Of the pretty roof details on this building? Which show to the left, in this photo?
And to the right, a tower room too!
Details, details, details...
Details... Details... Details...
I think we all agree, they don't put this much detail into buildings of today. Usually...
Old sign...
An old sign. I think the 'rules' have changed. Or at least, no one is keeping the sign painted in good repair. And that air conditioner brace, was installed, right over it. ,-)
Back porches...
An old apartment building, called The Algonquin, which faces on Broadway. This is a rear view. Thought it was kind of interesting, that they incorporated little back 'porches,' on a building, as old as this. I'll have to take a front view too. There are tiny front 'porches' there.
And those 'sort-of-ladders,' are the fire escapes...
If you click on and enlarge the photo, you can see that all the aspects on the top floor, had an arch ~ the windows and little back porches. And the next floor down, also has arches incorporated in some windows. Even on the back of the building. Kind of nice...
Learning...
Kids... Learning... At annual Woodworker's Show.
{Click on photos, to enlarge}
Isn't that the cutest thing???
Of course, when you have a 'Pop,' who teaches all his Grandchildren to do woodworking,
you don't have to wait to try it, at a Woodworker's Show. If you're our Grands, that is... :-)
Got bugs???
.
Got bugs???
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What I meant was... There is an add campaign, in this country, by the milk industry. Each add shows an individual celebrity, with a "milk mustache." Because they they have been drinking a glass of milk. And the big words in the add are; "Got milk?"

So I said; "Got bugs?"... because those holes {like the "milk mustache"} show that birds have been pecking for bugs, in those trees. A Pileated Woodpecker is large and makes quite a hole. Technically speaking, he's after ants, but....

Was... Isn't any more.

This old building was a Feed Store. Grain, seeds, feed, hay, yard supplies, farm supplies, plants, flower seeds, etc., etc., etc., could be purchased there. A kind of a city landmark. Right next to an old Pub, which is also a city landmark. Well, the Pub is still there. But the Feed Store has moved. Out past the Mall. -sigh-

But word is ~ this old place won't be simply torn down. That's hopeful. In some way, it will become the 'front' of a codominium complex. {Like apartments or flats... but you
don't rent them... you buy them outright} How this will be done, don't know. Even IF this will be done, don't know. We can hope... That the new owners will semi-preserve the look of the old traditional front, in some way... Time will tell.

Big Red Bug...

Big Red Bug on local college campus. That's a bench, in the lower left hand corner. The Bug is a ways behind it, but it is big. It's the only piece of modern sculpture, I can understand. :-) And I actually think it's pretty cute.
